GOODFELLOWS TOY DRIVE
Morton Elementary School is once again serving as a collection site for the Goodfellows Toy Drive. New toys and games donated to the Goodfellows will be given to families on the Goodfellows list.
Donated toys and games can be delivered to the Goodfellows collection box near the school office Monday, November 25 – Friday, December 16.
Hastings Public Elementary Schools use the actual temperature and wind chill of 0(zero) degrees to determine when students come into the building before the start of the school day and during designated recess periods.
Additionally, "IN" sign will be posted on exterior doors when students may come into the building before the first bell.
Students should dress appropriately for the weather. Students will need to remain on the blacktop or concrete if they do not wear snow boots when snow
LABEL STUDENT BELONGINGS
Please put your child’s name on items they bring to school. Many times students have similar coats, gloves or boots. Having items marked helps to get lost items returned to the right owners.
Please come and check out our Lost and Found if you are missing any items.

BULLDOG OF THE WEEK
Students who were chosen to go out to lunch at Pizza Hut with Mrs. Baxter on Tuesday, November 5, were Camryn Horstmann, Jacob Deckert, and Amber Lynch. On Tuesday, November 12, Evhanni Santos, Angelique Peck, and Avrie Davis enjoyed lunch at Arby’s with Mrs. Reeves. Congratulations to all of these students!!!
BROADCASTING SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION
As in the past, radio and television stations will be broadcasting school-closing information during periods of bad weather.
The decision to close because of a snowstorm will be made as soon as possible. Generally, radio stations broadcast school closings as soon as they are contacted. Television stations broadcast/scroll school-closing information following their station procedures.
A decision to dismiss school because of a snowstorm while school is in session will be made at least one hour in advance of the dismissal.
Your child/children should know in advance what they are expected to do if school is dismissed early or if at dismissal time, the weather conditions are becoming severe.
PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL!!
Parents, grandparents and neighbors who will be doing holiday and gift shopping at Allen’s are asked to please save the cash register receipts for Morton Elementary School. Morton Elementary School and Hastings Public Schools are not endorsing “Allen’s”. If you do shop at Allen’s, please save the cash register receipts for Morton Elementary School. Together, we can make a difference.
SCHOOL TRAFFIC SAFETY
With cold weather upon us, there are more students receiving rides, meaning more traffic around Morton Elementary School. This calls for added caution and patience when driving around the school. Please remember the following ways to keep our kids safe:
- Do not park across crosswalks.
- Do not stop in traffic, even for a short time, to drop off or pick up kids.
- Have your children get in on the passenger side and wait until you have parked to approach the vehicle.
- If using the pick up lane, pull forward when a space empties in front of you to allow others to share the limited spaces. Don’t park on the left side (drivers) to curb in the pick up lane.
- Children should always cross the street using the designated crosswalk.
